Cookie Policy

The small set of cookies and local storage we use — and, just as importantly, what we don't.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. Related technologies like local storage work similarly, saving a value in your browser. Both let a site remember things between requests — such as keeping you signed in or holding a preference.
2. How we use them
We run a lean footprint. A11y Shield uses only the cookies needed to make the service work, plus one to remember a preference. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, and we do not track you across other websites.
3. Cookies & storage we use
| Name / Provider | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clerk session & auth cookies | Keep you securely signed in and protect against request forgery | Essential | Session |
| Free-scan lead-binding cookie | Links your free-scan request to the email report, httpOnly and not readable by scripts | Essential | Short-lived |
| Theme preference (next-themes) | Remembers your light or dark mode choice | Functional (local storage) | Persistent |
4. Managing cookies
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and clear the theme preference by clearing your browser’s local storage for this site. Note that blocking the essential cookies will break sign-in and stop parts of the service from working, since they are required for it to function.
5. Changes
If we add or change cookies, we’ll update this page and revise the “last updated” date above. For more on how we handle your data generally, see our Privacy Policy.
