Accessibility compliance you can actually act on
A11y Shield turns an accessibility scan into a grade, a € risk you can defend, and the EN 301 549 statement regulators ask for — built by an independent UK studio, not a compliance mill.
The law landed. The tooling didn't keep up.
The European Accessibility Act came into force on 28 June 2025. Most sites still fail basic WCAG, and the accessibility statement regulators expect is genuinely painful to produce by hand.
The tools that existed were built for the wrong reader. Dev-only scanners spit out hundreds of raw violations with no sense of what matters, no legal framing and no statement at the end. The alternative — a consultancy audit — is expensive, slow, and out of date the moment you ship your next release.
We built A11y Shield to sit in the gap. It scans for WCAG 2.2 and EN 301 549 issues, scores your legal and € risk exposure so a non-specialist can prioritise, generates the formal statement (and its PDF), and exports a fix plan a developer can work straight through.
Honest about what a machine can and can't test
Automated scanning catches a lot, but not everything. We're explicit about the line — and about staying compliant after launch, not just at it.
We name the gaps
Every issue is tagged as automatable or needs-manual-review, so you know exactly which barriers a scan has cleared and which still need a human to check.
Risk a non-expert can read
Issues roll up into a grade and a € exposure range based on EAA penalty bands — a number a founder or client can act on without learning WCAG.
Compliant after launch
The formal statement plus weekly monitoring means a bad deploy can't quietly re-expose you. You stay covered, not just covered on the day you launched.
Built for the teams the EAA actually targets
If you sell, publish or run software for European users, you're in scope. Shield is tuned for the businesses carrying the most exposure.
Ecommerce
The EAA names ecommerce explicitly. Checkout, filters and product pages are all in scope, and your revenue is the exposure. Shield keeps the paths that make you money defensible.
Agencies
White-labelYou carry liability for everything you ship. Monitor the whole client roster from one dashboard and hand over statements and reports under your own brand.
B2B SaaS
The app, the marketing site and the docs all count. Bake conformance into the release process so a deploy can't quietly regress it after launch.
Publishers
High page counts and constant content churn make manual audits hopeless. Continuous scanning keeps the whole library covered without a human re-checking every URL.
Made by an independent UK web studio
A11y Shield is built and run by a small, independent studio in Sunderland that ships real client sites — so accessibility here is a working discipline, not a checkbox.
We build and maintain client websites for a living, which means we carry the same EAA liability our customers do. Shield is the tool we wanted for ourselves. It’s made by lukeduff.co.uk (opens in a new tab), an independent web studio based in the UK.
